MEKEL SMITH
For over 32 years, Ms. Smith has dedicated her professional life to helping injured people. Prior to joining the Dugan Law Firm, Ms. Smith practiced law in the New Orleans area handling product liability, mass tort, class action, personal injury and maritime cases. She has successfully represented hundreds of clients against major pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers and other large corporations by negotiating six and seven figure settlements for her clients. She has been actively involved in the following product liability cases: Yaz, Chinese Drywall, BP Oil Spill, General Motors Defective Ignition Switch, Actos, Defective Hips, Medtronic Infuse, Plavix, Pradaxa, Mirena, Transvaginal Mesh, Incretin, Zofran, Invokana, IVC Filter, Lumber Liquidators, Takata Airbag, Volkswagon, Testosterone Replacement Therapy and Xarelto. Most recently, Ms. Smith has taken an active role in pursuing the rights of her clients in the following cases: Talcum Powder, Proton Pump Inhibitor, 3M Earplugs, NFL Concussion, Roundup, Necrotizing Enterocolitis, Infant Baby Formula Recall, Camp Lejeune, Social Media, Ozempic, Depo-Provera, Gaming Addiction and Oxbryta.
A New Orleans native, Ms. Smith graduated from Cabrini High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana State University, where she majored in Journalism and Political Science. She received her Juris Doctor from Loyola University School of Law. Ms. Smith is licensed to practice before all state courts in Louisiana, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana. She is an active member of the Louisiana Bar Association, Louisiana Association for Justice and the American Association for Justice.
