Yamaha Motor Corp. Defective Outboard Motor Investigation

The Dugan Law Firm is investigating claims for a class action suit against Yamaha Motor Corp. USA for allegedly making outboard boating motors with a defective aluminum coating in the exhaust system. The defect potentially lead to corrosion and premature engine failure. The 2000-2005 model year first-generation F-Series four-stroke outboard motor for pleasure use is the specific motor subject to our investigation.

It is alleged that this motor allows for hot gases to corrode the exhaust passages. This, in turn, leads to holes in said passages and can eventually cause engine problems or premature failure. It is also alleged that the corrosion can occur in as little as 200 hours of usage and engine problems are discovered between 500 and 700 hours of operating time. Even though this motor comes with a 3 year limited warranty for consumers buying it for pleasure use, it often fails just beyond of the warranty period. THus leaving the consumer to front the bill for costly repairs.

Yamaha has not issued a recall on the models in question, but they have changed the coating in newer outboard motors, and created a kit for the older models.Unfortunately the kit costs $650, plus thousands more in labor to install it.

To further our investigation, we would like to speak with purchasers of 2000-05 model year Yamaha first-generation F-Series four-stroke outboard motors for pleasure use which are corroding. All initial consultations are free of charge.
